Quadrantids
There were no visual reports from the Quadrantids, however the video network confirmed 1731 meteors with 207 cameras making 22,000 individual detections. The UK weather conspired against us again of course. The brightest confirmed Quadrantid had a magnitude of -2.6.
Fireball reports
There were dozens of fireball reports from the public in January. 22 reports came in of a bright fireball on 18th Jan at 18:10, which was seen over the Irish Sea and reached magnitude -4.5. This was also seen by UKMON cameras and can be seen on their website https://archive.ukmeteors.co.uk. The picture below was taken by a camera in Ireland. Note fake “secondary meteors” caused by reflections inside the camera lens.
There were also ten reports of fireball on 25th Jan at 16:50 seen over Scotland. There’s no video record of this one unfortunately as it was very early in the evening.
There were also five reports of a fireball on the 17th of January at 19:50, five more of a fireball on the 9th at 23:00 and fourteen other reports throughout December and January. Several of these can be matched with video data in the UK Meteor Network’s archive.
