Virtual Preston Montford – the videos

With Covid still keeping the SPA from holding regular physical meetings, it was decided to take our popular weekend course online in 2021 as a free and exclusive live event for members. This is an event that we have been holding since 1977 at the Preston Montford field centre in Shropshire, and we will return to this physical location at the earliest opportunity!

However, restrained by the virus, we organised a day of lectures online on Saturday 13 November with the theme Observing the Planets. A packed day of talks for the event, which we called Virtual Preston Montford, was presented by regulars Robin Scagell and Professor Ian Morison, professional planetary scientist Dr Leigh Fletcher, and imaging expert Martin Lewis.

For members who missed it or want to relive the day, and for others who might enjoy seeing an example of an SPA event, we’ve saved the talks to our YouTube channel, and you can click to view them below. And if you have come here thanks to the news reports of the event in Sky at Night or Astronomy Now magazines, then please consider joining us to be among the first to learn or future events!
