NLC 2015 (and Aurora)

NLC 2015

The season has started with a nice display over Scotland and it promises to be a good one.

This was taken by Luke Longhorn on the 27/28 May 2015 with his iPhone while flying at 32,000 ft over Birmingham.
He was flying with Alan Clitherow who managed to catch it on the ground from his home outside Edinburgh later that night.
This photo is my first sighting this season, taken from my croft in Glenbarry, NE Scotland on the 2nd/3rd June 2015. A small but nice display and quite bright with a 1sec exposure at f5.6

For a change, in the middle of NLC season, a CME hit the Earth on the 22nd June 2015. The resultant aurora was seen by Mary Spicer from her home in Tackley, Oxfordshire, where she took this amazing photo.
On the 28/29 June I was lucky enough to catch this display, despite the thick cloud that seemed to come and go. It was 30dg high and 90dg wide and quite bright.

The same night, Paul Crossland took this spectacular shot from Wigg Island, Runcorn, Cheshire.
Also spotting NLC on the 5/6 July was Alastair McBeath from his home in Morpeth, Northumberland.
What must have been a large display, but I only caught the bit below the cloud on the 15/16 July from my croft in Glenbarry, NE Scotland.

On the 18/19 July I had a clear night initially, but only got these bands on the northern horizon, from my croft in Glenbarry, NE Scotland.
At last on the 21/22 July I got a clear night in Glenbarry, NE Scotland,  and a cracking display which reached a hight of 45degrees by 02.30UT
The 23/24 July saw another mostly clear night but with cloud on the northern horizon. However, just peeking through was a little bit of NLC
