The Aurora season has got off to a quick start, thanks to a large coronal hole & 2 C3 eruptions from a sun spot directly facing earth.

Hopefully this bodes well for the season as the Sun gets more active.

I picked up this display at just after 0100 local on the 4/5 August. It lasted till 0300 local, when the background light got too bright.

It was also captured by Alan Tough from Elgin.

Cynthia Douglas managed to spot a weak aurora whilst in transit from Inverurie to Huntly on the 13/14 November.

It was a weak green arc about 60 degrees wide, and was the result of a coronal hole.

On the 6/7 Janury 2011 a coronal hole strike occured. The above is a panorama taken from my croft at Glenbarry, Banff. It is composed of 4 shots, and each exposure required 15 secs.

A weak green glow was spotted by Alan Tough from Elgin on the 14/15 Feb 2011.

This was the result of a coronal hole.

A large coronal hole strike occured on the night of 1/2 Mar 2011.

Alan Tough of Elgin caught it nicely in this shot.

All I managed to see was a green glow behind the clouds.

I picked up a very weak glow on the northern horizon on the 7/8 from my croft in Glenbarry, Banffshire.

 It continued the next night 11/12 Mar 11 as seen by myself from Glenbarry, Banff. This arc was visible despite the moonlight and lasted all night.

It was also seen by Alan Tough from Elgin who took this photo.

While we were on dry land, Robin Scagell and a few SPA members were on board the Marco Polo sailing towards 70 n and the port of Svolvaer. Robin took this incredable shot with a fish-eye lens on the 11/12 Mar 11.

uly has been an odd month so far, with some bright displays, some very weak, some days with nothing and a lot of days with cloud, espcially here in Scotland.

I got the first sighting on the 2nd/3rd from my croft in Glenbarry, Scotland.

This display was also seen by Alastair McBeath from Morpeth in England.

Judith Proctor caught a weak display on the 3rd/4th from Loughborough.

 Alan Tough photographed this display from Elgin on the 4th/5th.

It was also observed by Alastair McBeath from Morpeth.

Alan Clitherow showed the advantage of flying, when he took this shot 0n the 6th/7th

on the way from Edinburgh to East Midlands.

Mike Clarke got this spectacular shot on the 9th/10th from Retford, Nottingham.

This display was also seen clearly by Judith proctor in Loughborough.

This was the best display I have seen all season, taken on the 15th/16th from my croft in Glenbarry, nr Banff.

This was also seen by Alan Tough from Lossiemouth.

 I picked up a very weak display the next day(16th/17th) from Drumuir, very much like a con trail.

I picked up another weak display on the 17th/18th from Glenbarry, Banff.

The NLC season has started, although a lot of sightings have been lost due to cloud cover.  A typical spring!!!

I got my first contact on the 22/23  from Glenbarry.  It was very weak, like a Y shapped con-trail.

I saw this display from Glenbarry on the 25/26. It was quite large, but mostly hidden by cloud, and completely clouded over after 20 mins.

This photo was taken by Alan Tough from Elgin on the 28/29 and shows quite a good display. 

This has been a very quiet time, with only 4 event & 7 sightings, none of which were visible south of Scotland.

This sighting was from my croft at Glenbarry, Scotland on the night of the 14/15 February. Like all the other aurora in this report, it was caused by a coronal hole.

 This aurora on the 11/12 April was seen by 3 people, including myself. Taken from my croft, this was a nice green arc with some raying & curtain effects.

The display was also seen by Donald Millican in Ruthglen, Glasgow

Donald also saw a display the next night, 12/13 April but it was very weak and short lived.

This was all I managed to pick up from my croft, a green glow behind the clouds on the 02/03 May.

The 02/03 May display was also photographed by Mike Alexander from the Galloway Astronomy Centre.

And that has been the aurora sightings so far this year. Hopefully, the sun will become more active and things will be a bit better this autum.

20/21 July was when everything started to happen, with sightings well south and extensive formations.

Mike Clarke also caught it, along with a volcanic tinge.

The display on the 21/22 was spectacular with NLC to the zenith at my localation.

Donald Millican took this from Rutherglen, Glasgow on the 21-22.

Alan Clitherow took these shots on the 21/22 from his back-garden in central Fife and it is a panorama of a number of shots that he stitched together.

Mike Clarke also saw it in Retford, as well as Alastair McBeath in Morpeth & Judith Proctor near Loughborugh

On the 22/23 I caught this display from Glenbarry.

The next night, Mike Clarke caught this display from Retford.

It went quiet until 30/31, when this display appered over Glenbarry.

I had one more sighting(very weak) on the 03/04 Aug and after that nothing

This was the most intensive season I have had, with 50 reports in total.
