There are eight planets in the Solar System \u2013 and the Sun, itself, of course, at the centre of the whole thing. plus the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter. The planets orbit the Sun, with the Earth \u2013 you’ve guessed it! \u2013 the third one out from the Sun.<\/p>\n

Here you can find out lots of basic information about each planet. Click the picture of the planet below to go to its page. But do you know how to remember the order of the planets outwards from the Sun? The trick is to make up a sentence whose initial letters stand for the names of the planets:\u00a0M<\/strong>ercury,\u00a0V<\/strong>enus,\u00a0E<\/strong>arth,\u00a0M<\/strong>ars,\u00a0J<\/strong>upiter,\u00a0S<\/strong>aturn,\u00a0U<\/strong>ranus and\u00a0N<\/strong>eptune. So that’s M V\u00a0E\u00a0M\u00a0J\u00a0S\u00a0U\u00a0N.<\/p>\n

Here are a couple of suggestions that we found on the Internet. But try and make up your own \u2013 the sillier the better, because you’re more likely to remember it!<\/p>\n
