\n\tR Scuti spends most of its time within a few tenths of a magnitude of mag 5.4. However, it will often fade into minima. Some are deep and can take it below mag 8.0 ; others only see it drop by a magnitude or less. The general pattern is for R Scuti to have one deep minimum and one shallow minimum in each of its 140 day cycles. However, R Scuti doesn’t always obey the "rules" and will sometimes produce consective minima of similar depth.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe latest observations place R Scuti at about mag 6.5, making it borderline between being a deep minimum and a shallow minimum. It may now continue to fade into a deep minimum … or might brighten again. The only way to find out is to go out and observe it.<\/p>\n
