Solar Rotation Nos: 2220-2221
Almost no sunspot activity.
Here are the solar highlights for August 2019 together with a selection of images.
Sunspots
Only two tiny sunspots this month.
AR2745/6 appeared as two pores (tiny sunspots) on the 6th and 7th. This pore was part of the old Sunspot Cycle (Cycle 24) at latitude -05° it was just on the southern hemisphere.
AR2747 appeared on the 7th. This pore was just on the northern hemisphere at +06°. It had gone by the following day.
SPA Sunspot Mean Daily Frequency: 0.01 (was 0.01).
SPA Relative Sunspot Number: 0.15 (was 0.07).
Solar Prominences, Plage, Filaments and Flares
No prominences were seen 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 16th. When they did appear, they were mostly small and faint. Despite this there were some prominences around the solar limb on the 18th and 19th. A lovely tall prominence on the 23rd and a tall spike-like prominence on the 27th, both by the east limb. On the 31st a hedgerow type prominence appeared on the northeast limb and an arch-type prominence was on the southwest limb.

Few filaments were visible. Small areas of plage were seen on the 5th (around AR2745) but that was all.
No solar flares were reported.
SPA Prominence Mean Daily Frequency: 0.95 (was 0.77).
Well done to Michael Fullerton who observed 30 days, and to Brian Gordon-States and Alan Heath who were close behind on 29 days.
