In order to minimise the impact of the moonlight, observers would need to observe with their backs to the Moon &#8211; which effectively meant observing the northern sky, rather than the more &#8220;traditional&#8221; Pegasus area.<\/p>\n<p>An added issue was that a weather front was moving south across the UK during maximum night \u00a0and only observers in southern England would have any chance of clear skies.<\/p>\n<p>Results for maximum night (Aug 12-13) have been received from\u00a0<strong>Richard Fleet, David Scanlan, Martin Scanlan and Steven Coe<\/strong>. David, Martin and Steven observed\u00a0<strong>between 2130 and 0030UT\u00a0<\/strong>and recorded\u00a0<strong>70 Perseids<\/strong>\u00a0and 9 sporadics (LM 5.0). Richard operated his video cameras a part of the UKMON network and imaged many Perseids.<\/p>\n<p>Meteor watches on the nights leading up to Perseid maximum were carried out by\u00a0<strong>David Scanlan, Graham Winstanley\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Tony Markham<\/strong>. Tony recorded\u00a0<strong>6 Perseids<\/strong>\u00a0and 6 sporadics (LM 5.4) between\u00a0<strong>2355 and 0110UT\u00a0<\/strong>during the night of\u00a0<strong>Aug 4-5<\/strong>\u00a0and recorded\u00a0<strong>10 Perseids<\/strong>\u00a0and 4 sporadics between\u00a0<strong>2338 and 0045UT<\/strong>\u00a0(LM 4.8) during the night of\u00a0<strong>Aug 11-12<\/strong>. Graham was the only person able to observe on\u00a0<strong>Aug 13-14<\/strong>\u00a0and recorded 9 Perseids and 2 sporadics between\u00a0<strong>2239 and 2345UT<\/strong>\u00a0(duration 61 min, LM 5.0)<\/p>\n<p>The indications are however that, even after allowing for the bright moonlight, this was a below average Perseid maximum.
