Smokey battery charging on the ISS

Post by brian livesey »

Alarms have sounded on the International Space Station during battery charging and astronauts “night rest”. The crew reported smoke and the smell of burnt plastic, so air filters were activated, bringing the air quality back to normal. Roscosmos said that the crew would still be making a spacewalk later.
In August, cosmonauts discovered fissures in the Zarya module. Vladimir Solovyov, chief engineer at rocket manufacturer Energia said: “This is bad and suggests that the fissures will begin to spread.”
