HOYA 10X50 binoculars

I saw a pair of this spec on a flea market this morning. As always, I looked through the big ends first to check if there was any muck ,etc, inside. The left-hand side looked internally pristine, but, alas, in the right-hand side there was considerable clouding on one or more of the prisms. Unfortunately, it's usually the case that this sort of problem is at the interface of prisms, making it difficult to get to. There's also the possibility that the clouding has etched into the glass surfacing.
An onlooker commented that Hoya are premium Japanese glasses; in this instance it would probably cost quite a bit to have the prism/s cleaned, so the glass went back into its case.

Hi Brian,
A pity. If you were able to clean this Hoya yourself it would have been worth buying.
Mine is very nice, almost as new, with a very wide field and good view.

As you know David, with secondhand stuff it's the luck of the draw as to whether we get a bargain or not. I've had a number of bargains over the years .
I possibly could have cleaned the prism/s, but the problem is recollimation: I don't have an optical bench to do a proper job.
