European Astronomical Society Annual Meeting (virtual)

Post by JohnM »

The European Astronomical Society were scheduled to hold their annual meeting in Leiden this year but have now gone virtual. The meeting will be held from 29th June to 3rd July 2020.

As it is a virtual meeting the price has been reduced to 50 Euros per day or 80 Euros for the whole conference. For that you get 5 days of talks with 11 parallel sessions on specific topics plus Plenary sessions and lunch sessions. While you can only attend one of the virtual parallel sessions live you can watch the recordings of the other 10 sessions for the next month included in the fees above.

As this is a professional conference expect some talks to be quite detailed but others should be easier to understand. If any members decide to 'attend' I am thinking of organising zoom or ms teams meetings during the coffee & lunch breaks so we can have the informal chats that go on between the formal sessions at these meetings. If you wish to join these please reply to this message.

This may be your only chance to attend these meetings at a reasonable price as joining the EAS requires you have a PhD in something related to astronomy and even then the fees are quite high plus you need to pay for accommodation and travel.

The conference URL is at https://eas.unige.ch/EAS2020/, registration is available from this page.

See you there ?
