The ESA ( European Space Agency ) is having problems with its supersonic parachutes for the ExoMars probe. The spacecraft is being assembled at the Airbus factory in Stevenage, and its parachutes are supposed to be tested in the U.S. state of Oregon in November..
Launch of ExoMars is dated for July 2020, but launch could be delayed if the parachutes have not been tested and proven for the job.The problems mainly concern the packaging and extraction systems of the parachutes.
ExoMars will search for signs of life on the red planet, past and possibly present. Subsurface invstigations will be made by the rover in the search for water and micro-organisms.
