My First Major Upgrade

Post by Katfish Frogmore »

A couple of weeks ago I purchased my first telescope since I was a child. The scope that I decided on was an IOptron Smartstar R80. In the initial confusion of making the purchase, knowing absolutely nothing about modern equipment, I inadvertently purchased the scope without GPS. I subsequently ordered an after - market GPS unit for the scope and installed it upon arrival in the mail today. I am hoping that this modification will lead to even more enjoyment of the hobby. It's somewhat overcast at my location right now. I hope that the skies will be clear for the blue moon later this month.

I got the GPS with my go-to upgrade and it dose make life easier as you can park the scope and turn the power of come back to it after the clouds blow over and it keeps the setting so you don't have to find the stars again
