OneWeb satellite system change

Post by brian livesey »

The UK Space Agency has had almost its entire remit removed by Business Secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng. The Agency, launched ten years ago, has been stripped of any control over the UK space programme. Responsibility now rests with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Opposition politicians suspect that the change has been made because of the OneWeb satellite programme that has cost £400m. The Space Agency “disparaged” the idea of converting the OneWeb’s broadband satellites for a UK GPS system to replace the EU’s Galileo programme. A Whitehall source said that it was “laughable to suggest that the decision was in any way linked to OneWeb”.
