Mineral Moon

Post by davidm61 »

Hello

I've not posted on here in a long while, but while the lighter evenings are still with us, I thought I'd re-visit some photos that I did earlier.

This is a single frame of the Moon, taken using a Nikon D850 and Sigma 500mm f4 Sport lens. I have re-processed to show the mineral composition of the lunar surface.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Brian, appreciated.
Yes, I adjusted the saturation very gradually in Photoshop, following instructions from an article in 'Sky at Night Magazine'.

Have you been able to work out which colours correspond to which mineralogy?

I believe that the brownish parts are iron and the bluey/black sections are titanium.

The blue in your image in M. Tranquility would fit with the ilmenite-rich (i.e. titanium) basalts known to be there.
