Daytime Observing
Apologies for the pixelated image, but I was taking a break to nip to the shop and spotted the waxing gibbous Moon, against a beautiful blue sky. I often find I’m asked to produce “the Moon on a stick”, so finally after all these years I have managed to deliver it. I love daytime astronomy. Best wis...

Re: Lyrid Meteor Shower
Errrm, it’s only classed as a meteorite when it has settled on the surface - the earth in this instance?
Best wishes, Jeff.

Re: Sirius
We walked up to our local viewpoint this evening to watch sunset. It’s a beautiful view at all times, but especially when the sky is clear. It’s zero degrees Celsius tonight (32 degrees Fahrenheit) according to our outside temperature gauge, and it certainly feels crisp and sharp. At the centre left...
Re: Mu Cephei
It’s one of my favourites, and I revisit it quite often.

Surely it’s just a case of calling Harry S. Stamper (aka Bruce Willis) isn’t it?

Re: Jupiter and Saturn
Then turned the 80-mm spotter on it just to confirm that it was indeed SATURN. It was! Difficult from the upper window and impossible from the garden, at ground-level. And insufficient time to get dressed and venture to the Park for a better view. regards maf Very well done, Mike. I’m hoping to cat...

I watched this recently, David. I thought it was excellent. I didn’t know he was a member of the BAA.

Re: Orion and a Satellite
Hi SkyBrowser. I included the lower resolution image in this post, but yes, on the original there’s some nice detail. It was a 13 second exposure at ISO 1600, aperture f/5.6. Taken using a Canon EOS DSLR with a 55mm lens. I captured one of the Hyades and Pleiades which I was quite pleased with. I’ll...

Orion and a Satellite
I spotted some unexpected clear skies this evening, and nipped outside in deep twilight to spend a bit of time standing and staring at the stars. I took my camera outside too, and captured this, amongst other images. I suspect Orion won’t be gracing our skies for too much longer. If I have my identi...
