2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month, four section members produced fourteen images of deep sky objects in total.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Davies<\/strong> of Cambridge used an 8&#8243; Richey Chretien telescope and a QSI 583 mono camera plus red green and blue filters to produce this image of open cluster NGC 457, which lies in the constellation of Cassiopeia.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as the Owl cluster or ET cluster;\u00a0 5 phi-1 and 7 phi-2 Cass can be supposed as a pair of eyes!\u00a0 There about 150 magnitude 12 to 15 stars present, around 21 million years old and 8,000 light years used a Williams Optics 71mm\u00a0 refractor plus a Canon 600D astro modified DSLR for NGC 1499 and a QHY 100SC camera for the other two images.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3525\" <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Norrie<\/strong> of Fife sent in six images:\u00a0 five emission nebulae and one galaxy.\u00a0 The emission nebulae are:\u00a0 Caldwell 9, or Sh2-155 in the constellation of\u00a0 Cepheus,\u00a0 NGC 281, also known as the Pacman nebula in Cassiopeia, NGC 7000, the North America nebula to be found in Cygnus,\u00a0 NGC 2244 aka the Rosette nebula in Monoceros and NGC 2359 aka Thor&#8217;s Helmet, which lies in Canis Major.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3527\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3527\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption id=\"caption-attachment-3530\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NGC 2359<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the centre of NGC 2359 is the hot pre-supernova Wolf-Reyet star WR7.\u00a0 Its complex shape is thought to be ionised gas produced by WR7&#8217;s intense radiation interacting with a cloud of molecular gas in the vicinity of the star.<\/p>\n<p>M33 is the Pinwheel spiral galaxy in Triangulum.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3532\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3532\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.popastro.com\/deepsky\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/01\/2017.12.-M33-Steve-Norrie-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"402\" green, blue and narrow band filters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Eagle<\/strong> imaged four different kinds of deep sky object.<\/p>\n<p>Dwarf lenticular galaxy NGC 404 in the constellation of Andromeda is rich in neutral hydrogen.\u00a0 Some sources propose this galaxy was formed when a spiral galaxy merged with other, smaller galaxies in the distant past.\u00a0 It is also known as &#8220;Mirach&#8217;s Ghost&#8221; since it is close enough to second magnitude beta Andromedae to make visual and photographic observation a little tricky.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3534\"
