You are invited to join the SPA and the Stirling Astronomical Society (SAS) who are joining forces to put on a weekend of events in Stirling. Whether you are a newcomer to astronomy or seasoned observer there will be plenty for everyone to enjoy at this exciting event. Come along to meet up with fellow astronomers, listen to our programme of talks, browse the trade stands and much more. Details of the location, along with a map, are available on the Stirling.gov.uk website. Admission to the majority of events is free, and open to everyone.
Friday 22nd February at the Highland Hotel, Spittal Street, Stirling
Between 8pm to 10pm, Stirling Astronomical Society will be conducting tours of Stirling's Old High School Telescope (1889) (with observing if clear). Numbers on each tour, lasting approximately 30 minutes, are limited to 8 people. Please email publicity@popastro.com to express your interest and indicate your time of arrival at the hotel.

Saturday 23rd February - Main SPA Day of Events at Albert Halls
Main lecture is by Iain Nicolson, (writer, lecturer and broadcaster) on 'THE DARK SIDE OF THE UNIVERSE'. We are asking for requests for tickets for the Iain Nicolson Lecture to ensure that we don't exceed the capacity of the lecture theatre. - 10:00am - Doors Open
- 10:30am - Welcome by SPA President Helen Walker
- 10:45am - Talk - 'Buying your first Telescope' - Professor Ian Morision
- 11:30am - Coffee Break - tour the Trade Stands and see demonstrations
- 12:30pm - Talk - 'Dark Sky Scotland' by Dan Hillier from Royal Observatory Edinburgh
- 1:15pm - Lunch Break - Join an SAS tour of Stirling's Old High School Telescope. Make sure to visit SPA Merchandise Stand, buy raffle tickets
- 3:00pm - Main Lecture - 'The Dark Side of the Universe' - Iain Nicolson
- 4:00pm - Raffle Draw and last chance to tour Trade Stands and see demonstrations
- 5:00pm - Events at Albert Halls close
Saturday Evening 8:00 pm - 11:00pm
Stirling Astronomical Society will be leading an observing session at a forestry commission dark site. In the event of bad weather the Society have a range of talks and workshops they will put on in the hall at the site. If needed, transport to the site can be arranged by coach (at a small charge). Please email publicity@popastro.com if you require transport, so this can be organised in advance. Directions to the site, if you wish to drive there yourself, can also be obtained via e-mail.
Sunday 24th February at the Glasgow Science Centre - 10:45 am
Stirling Astronomical Society have arranged a reduced entrance fee to the Glasgow Science Centre where you can see a planetarium show and explore the rest of the centre at your leisure before making your way home. Please email publicity@popastro.com to register your interest in this event.
