NOTES ABOUT THE TABLE

KEY:
M(v) = Visual Magnitude.
ZC - Zodiacal Catalogue number, originally much favoured by lunar occultation observers.
Type (R)eappearance, (D)isappearance or (G)raze at (D)ark or (B)right limb of the moon.
Alt. The altitude of the moon in the sky.
Az. the azimuth, or angular position of the moon along the horizon measured from the north point.
PA= Position Angle measured in an anticlockwise direction from the Celestial North Pole.

23 Oct. 54 Aurigae. A grazing occultation. The graze line passes midway between St David’s and Pembroke, then south of Worcester near great Malvern and Tewksbury to Northampton. After passing just north of Cambridge the line hits the North Sea midway between Norwich and Ipswich. No occultation takes place north of the line, but a full occultation will be witnessed to the south.
28 Oct. 53 Leonis. A grazing occultation. The line passes north of St. DavidÕs, south of Gloucester and Oxford to north London, then out to sea along the Thames estuary. Again, there is no occultation to the north but a full one occurs to the south.
16 Nov. Tau Arietis. A grazing occultation. The graze line crosses southern Scotland from Ayr in the west to Coldingham, north of Berwick on Tweed, in the east. An occultation is visible to the north, but not to the south of this line.
17 Nov. Chi Tauri. A grazing occultation. The graze line crosses Scotland from Portree on Skye, across Loch Ness to the town of Catterline, south of Aberdeen. All places to the south see an occultation.
20 Nov. Omega 1 Cancri. A grazing occultation. The graze line passes through the middle of Anglesey and across the sea to the Ribble estuary and Preston in Lancashire. From there it proceeds across the Yorkshire Dales to Ripon before hitting the North Sea at Ravenscar on the North Yorkshire coast. Observers to the south will see an occultation.
21 Dec. 37 Leonis. A grazing occultation. The graze line crosses northern Scotland in a south easterly direction to Dundee. It then follows the east coast just out to sea to join continental Europe at Rotterdam. Apart from the far north of Scotland, most of us will witness an occultation.

If you require specific data for your locality, or details of occultations involving fainter stars, please get in touch with the Director of the Occultation Section giving your geographical location. Graphical representations of each occultation will be available at the Occultation Sections web-site before the event is due to take place.
